Private Dining Options
We offer two private dining options for adventurous diners, both by advance reservation: a Chef's Table held every Thursday at 6:30pm and private Chef's Tastings, held at your convenience.
At the Chef's Table, a communal table for up to eight diners located just off our kitchen, Chef Ed Matthews offers a five-course menu each Thursday at 6:30pm, paired with appropriate wines for $65 per person. At this table, the chef and his crew will offer dishes that they feel like cooking, experimental dishes, and dishes that are not offered in the main dining room. This is a great way to try new foods and to meet new friends. You must book 24-48 hours in advance.
For those looking for a unique experience, we offer our Chef's Tasting, a private dining experience customized just for you and your friends, at which we present a multi-course tasting menu paired with wines. Chef Ed will discuss with you your food preferences, dietary restrictions, wine, and budget and then devise a one-of-a-kind, memorable menu just for you. We need a minimum of 72 hours notice for tastings. 7-course tastings including wine start at $105 and 9-course tastings with wine start at $125.
We've done Chef's Tastings from money-is-no-object to 9-course vegan, and everything in between. You'll find links to sample menus with photos at the bottom of the side bar to the left. We'll develop a menu for you based on our discussions, what is available at the farmers market before your dinner, and whatever surprises we have concocted just for you.
As much as possible (but only if you want) given how busy the dining room is, the chef or sous chef will present the dishes at your table, giving you a chance to discuss what you're eating.
Reaction to Our Chef's Tasting Menus
"I cannot give enough kudos to Ed and his staff for the superb ingredients, careful preparation, and beautiful presentation of each dish. But the purpose of fine dining is ultimately the taste. And at One Block West we experienced fresh, refined, and delicious tastes and textures in each and every course.
The meal was so stunning that at the conclusion I asked Ed if he would cook for us again the next evening. So, the next night we sat down for an entirely different tasting menu. The result was even more stunning because overnight this staff created an entirely different menu so that comparison was not possible. Each dish, both days, could have stood on its own. But in combination the experience was breath-taking.…
If you are the type of person who would seek out a restaurant because of its chef or his consistently good cooking there is no need to travel to NYC or the Napa Valley. On the edge of the Shenandoah Valley is a gem of a restaurant with a prince of a chef serving food that is locally produced, seasonal, and unequaled anywhere."

"Wow! That was better than the meal we had at Charlie Trotter's!"
