Wine Program

One Block West is a restaurant for wine lovers. For every beer we sell, we sell cases of wine. Why? Because we love wine. If you love wine, you'll love our list: one of the finest and most fairly priced small restaurant wine lists in the country, with around 70 wines by the glass.

When you're in the restaurant, we invite you to come see our nitrogen tap system, featured in Cheers magazine. But we're warning you, that wall full of tapped bottles of wine can be mighty seductive!

And, if you want to taste the fruits of the Virginia wine industry, you couldn't come to a better spot. We're unabashed cheerleaders for our homegrown industry and we have the biggest selection you'll find just about anywhere. We taste 300-500 Virginia wines each vintage to choose the 40 or so for our list. And, we also know the local winemakers and will happily give you directions and advice about which and when to visit.

We have some very promising grapes in Virginia, notably Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc, Viognier (really, our Viognier is already as good or better than Condrieu, the best in the world), Petit Manseng, and Seyval Blanc.

Once each month on a Thursday night, we put on a wine maker dinner, showcasing what our kitchen can do in terms of pairing foods with wines. You can be notified of such dinners via our newsletter or by keeping an eye on the events calendar.

One Block West is also a licensed wine retailer, so be sure to take home a couple Virginia wines as souvenirs of your visit. Most of our wine list, rare bottles excepted, is available at standard retail prices to go.

Curious why we don't have any awards from Wine Spectator?
